Process of manufacturing carburetted water gas

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6741981

This patent describes a process of manufacturing carburetted water gas by the use of heavy oil as the carburetting medium in a gas-making set including a generator and conduits connecting the top of the generator and the bottom of the generator. The carburetting apparatus and flow-direction control valves provide a process consisting of upwardly blasting the fuel bed in the generator with air admitted at the bottom of the generator and burning the blast gases in the carburetting apparatus with air admitted to the latter and passed therethrough. The process involves then effecting a steam run upwardly through the fuel bed with steam admitted at the bottom of the generator and simultaneously spraying heavy oil upon the top of the fuel bed. The resultant gaseous products are passed through the carburetting apparatus then effecting a steam run downwardly through the fuel bed with steam admitted at the top of the generator. The same process follows by blasting through the fuel bed with air admitted to the set at the top of the generator and passing the blast gases through the carburetting apparatus.
