Method of producing water gas

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6741882
This patent describes a method of water-gas production by air blasting a mass of carbonaceous residue to raise its temperature, placing a layer of coal on said residue, passing steam into said heated residue to form blue water gas, and passing the heated blue water gas through the coal. The process results in the heat of the blue water gas serving to volatilize the volatile content of the coal. Agitating the layer of coal during the passage of the blue water gas then occurs with the process by alternately air blasting continuing. The process continues by then adding coal and passing steam into the mass of residue, the blue water gas passing through the added coal, the blast air and the steam being both preheated by heat derived from the air-blast gases.
