Table A consolidates data on domestic energy sources, energy imports, consumption of energy products, exports of energy products, additions to inventories of energy products, and energy losses (waste heat in power generation, other losses in energy transformations, and storage and distribution losses). Table B, Energy Balance Account, is designed as a consolidation of more detailed accounts--Sources, Uses, Inventory, and Energy Conversion Accounts--expressed in Btus. Table C, Product Balance (Apparent Consumption) is calculated as the sum of domestic production and imports minus exports, inventory changes, material inputs to energy conversion processes, and storage and distribution losses. Table E is a consolidated account in which the material inputs and outputs from each energy conversion process are examined as well as the fuels and power consumed by these processes. Losses in each conversion process are calculated, as is the total energy dissipated, so that the net output of energy by each conversion process may be calculated. Data on products taxonomy, sector taxonomy, and functional use taxonomy are compiled in three appendices. (MCW)
