This patent describes an electrochemical cell separator plate comprising the molded, carbonized and graphitized product formed from a composition comprising: about 30 weight % to about 60 weight % of coke particles; the coke particles having a size less than 150 microns; and about 30 weight % to about 60 weight % of carbonizable resin; wherein the separator plate has increased density, decreased open porosity and increased corrosion resistance over separator plate formed from graphite particles.
