Southern California Edison's impact of transmission
- Southern California Edison Co., Rosemead, CA (USA)
Today, there is an extensive transmission system within California and between California and other regions of the Western United States. The existing transmission system developed from the need of regional utilities to transmit power from local and remote generators to load centers, insure reliable service by providing interconnection support, and take advantage of long and short term purchases for capital and production cost savings. Economic events have demonstrated that transmission resources are among the most valuable resources to utilities. Accordingly, perhaps the most important and controversial issue facing utilities and regulators today is transmission development and access. The author discusses developments in transmission development and access at Southern California Edison.
