Study of the cross-section asymmetry in photodisintegration of the deuteron by polarized. gamma. rays at low energies

We report measurements of the asymmetry parameter of the cross sections for photodisintegration of the deuteron in a beam of linearly polarized photons in the energy range 40--70 MeV for proton emission angles 75 and 90/sup 0/ c.m.s. The experimental data are compared with the theoretical calculations of Partovi and Arenhoevel and also with our calculations in a covariant approach with gauge-invariant amplitudes in the pole approximation.
