Geological aspects of industrial waste disposal: summary of a workshop. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6736260
In consideration of the current national attention directed at land disposal of wastes and at the urging of scientists familiar with the field problems involved, a one-day conference was held to consider geological aspects of the topic. These papers concern the role of geologists in the disposal of wastes, the great value (and scarcity) of appropriate types of geological maps for location of sites for disposal of municipal solid wastes, the problem of the contamination of aquifers, geological considerations in deep-well injection of liquid wastes, problems of disposal of wastes from the mining industry, and, in general, the great need for information on those properties of rocks that play such an important role in the underground containment of waste.
