Triplex pump flow naturally fluctuates due to the cyclic nature of the pump and other factors inherent in the system. Flow deficiency at the suction can lead to fluid separation and knock, and at both the suction and discharge, unsteady flow can lead to vibration and increased wear. Dampeners can steady these input and output fluctuations in flow and pressure to acceptable levels.
