This Program plan describes a multi-year program initiated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to assess and evaluate the methods, radiation exposure and costs associated with decommissioning of retired nuclear facilities. The objective of this program is to provide the NRC licensing staff with comparative data that will allow assessment of decommissioning alternatives for regulatory and ALARA implementation of future decommissioning proposals. The program is currently limited to nuclear reactors.
