Critics of the unfinished Harry S. Truman Dam in Missouri cited damage to land and wildlife in a July 29, 1980 hearing into why the US Corps of Engineers has failed to keep its promises and its schedules. The testimony of seven speakers and other materials and statements give the views of hydrologists, utilities, environmentalists, and state officials as well as those of the Corps. Damage to the region's resources through erosion, flooding, fluctuating water levels and the damage to the economy will be felt first by the tourism and fishing industries. Corps spokesmen referred to unexpected and complex problems as the primary causes of the delays. (DCK)
