New mechanical coalescing medium is used in treaters

Vertical emulsion treaters, or ''heater treaters,'' have been in use for more than 50 years removing water, basic sediment and gas from crude oil. Over that time, chemical and mechanical aids have been added to conventional designs to help coalesce water droplets in order to break the emulsion and recover more oil. A new mechanical coalescing medium has proven effective. It reportedly improves coalescence, reduces the need for chemical demulsifiers, and lowers heating costs. The medium was developed by C-E Natco and is trademarked PERFORMAX.
