Mene Grande Oil Co. (MGO), the largest producer in the E. Venezuela area, reports outstanding success in thermal recovery, downhole mixing, hydraulic pumping, and dehydration. In 1973, the company produced nearly 18 million bbl of oil below 14/sup 0/ API, with the bulk of it coming from its E. Venezuela concessions. Among the company's installations is a recently expanded 14-MMcfd air compression plant, now feeding Latin America's largest in situ combustion project. The plant boasts 5 silicon-lubricated, Ingersoll Rand 1,100-hp, 4-stage compressors. The units boost air pressure from atmospheric to 40 psi and then to 200, 600, and 2,000 psi for injection into one well completed in the P-2-3 sand, Miga field. MGO says the 450-bpd production now attributable to air injection brings the project to a breakeven point. Graphical representations show the air injection well and the fire-flood producing well.
