Title: A comparison of the texture development in pure and simple shear and during path changes

Textures after simple shear (idealized torsion) and pure shear (idealized sheet rolling, or channel die tests) have been measured for a long time, particularly in materials of the face-centered cubic lattice structure. simulations of these textures, according to the Taylor model of polycrystal plasticity or various modifications of it, have reached reasonable agreement with the experiments; in this sense, these two cases are (separately) understood. In the present paper, the authors wish to study the similarities and differences between simple and pure shear textures, and relate the differences to cases of texture development during concurrent path changes. It has been observed that the latter shows features similar to simple-shear textures, even though here the principal strain rate axes remain fixed with respect to the laboratory, and the spin is constant. In this paper, the authors' aim is to understand better the effect of various kinds of path change, especially when accompanied by rigid-body spins. An understanding of the interaction between rotations and path changes is especially important in the study of non-uniform deformation in heterogeneous materials.
