Organization of an effluent-free coking plant

Journal Article · · Coke Chem. USSR (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

The authors tabulate options for coking plant effluent schemes and favour the use of preheated charges and formed coke, both of which take account of the deteriorating coal base. One version re-uses effluents for wet quenching after dilution (0.55 m/sup 3//t coke) by recycling plant water, whilst the second version centres on formed coke, in association with biochemical purification and clarifying. These two systems also keep chloride and sulphate ions within permitted limits. The evaporation stage reduces the salt content in the effluents and thus renders them technically acceptable for industrial use in heat exchange and cooling plant.
