This patent describes a well penetrating a subsurface formation. It comprises: suspending a perforating gun from a tubing string in the well, the perforating gun placed proximate the formation; placing a pump assembly in the tubing string; operating the pump assembly to produce a preselected pressure imbalance between a well annulus, which surrounds the perforating gun, and the tubing string; actuating the perforating gun to perforate the formation the perforating gun being actuated by the preselected pressure imbalance; utilizing the pump assembly to pump fluid from the formation.
