Energy in the developing world: the real energy crisis
- eds.
Few global problems can match the task of substantially increasing the energy availability for the three billion people who live in developing countries and use energy differently than do the people in developed countries. A variety of perspectives, beginning with global and general views of acquiring energy resources and their uses, are presented to define the magnitude of the problem. These are followed by national profiles from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The energetics of the world's two most populous countries (China and India) and Latin America's largest nation (Brazil) are examined in detail. Future social and economic successes and failures in these countries will have deep global repercussions. 500 references, 30 figures, 117 tables.
