Integral measurements of the /sup 233/Pa neutron capture cross section (LWBR Development Program)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6726030
The thermal neutron capture cross section and resonance integral of /sup 233/Pa were measured by irradiating bare and cadmium-covered thorium wires, and, after suitable chemical separations, determining the amounts of /sup 233/U and /sup 234/U produced. Earlier results reported for the resonance integral are reviewed and additional data are included. The cadmium-covered thorium data now provide an average /sup 233/Pa resonance integral result of 857 = 35 barns, which is 15 barns higher than the value reported previously. This result includes the l/v component of the cross section and is appropriate for a l/E spectrum and a perfect filter with a low energy cutoff of 0.5 eV. The bare thorium wire data provide an average 2200 m/sec /sup 233/Pa cross section result of 38.3 b. (NSA 24: 38220)
