The determination of the amount of higher boiling constituents present in various types of liquefied petroleum (LP) gases is described. After 100 ml of the sample is collected in a cooled weathering tube, the liquid is allowed to weather under specified conditions; and the temperature is observed when 95 percent has evaporated. When related to the observed vapor pressures and gravities of the products, the test results can be used to indicate the approximate concentrations of butane in propane-type LP gas and pentenes in propane-butane mixtures and butane-type LP gases.
