Simon-Carves Ltd., England, has developed a new simple, reliable, and inexpensive method of heating the soil beneath an LNG or LP-gas inground storage tank to prevent ground heaving and consequent tank failure. Instead of the conventional electric-wire heating approach, the Simon-Carves system circulates heated air in a space between the tank's outer walls and base and the surrounding ground. The heated air is supplied by a blower through a duct which connects to an air distribution manifold located beneath the tank base. The air is collected at the tank top for recycling to the heater and blower.
