Mirror translation apparatus for altering focal point position in a laser

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6723022
This patent describes an apparatus. It comprises: a frame; a dye laser connected to the frame and having a dye jet, a cavity defined by mirrors that cause light emitted from the dye jet to resonate in the cavity and pass through the dye jet thereby defining an intersection volume in the dye jet, and including an excitation light source means for supplying incoming excitation light source means for supplying incoming excitation light; a mirror means for reflecting substantially all the incoming excitation light to a focal point within the intersection volume; and pivot means for pivotally attaching the mirror means to the frame such that the mirror means can be pivoted about a pivot point far enough from the mirror means such that the focal point moves along approximately a straight line through the intersection volume at lest over a predetermined range of movement of the pivot means.
