Advances in neutron radiography

Conference · · Trans. Am. Nucl. Soc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6719201
Neutron radiography is normally applied as a through-transmission radiographic method. Neutrons undergo different attenuation characteristics as compared to the more commonly used x-ray; this has led to neutron applications in explosive devices, turbine blades, mechanical assemblies, fluid-observation, corrosion detection, etc. For the inspection of nuclear materials, gamma-insensitive imaging detectors and varying sensitivity to different isotopes offer particular advantages. This paper summarizes some recent neutron radiographic developments and applications.
