Inelastic scattering of /sup 20/Ne from the (001) face of LiF

Measurements of inelastic scattering of a supersonic neon beam from the (001) surface of LiF at 80 K are presented. Intensity and energy of the scattered particles are measured for an incident angle of 20/sup 0/ along the <100> azimuthal direction by using a quadrupole mass-spectrometer detector and time-of-flight techniques. Both creation and annihilation of Rayleigh and bulk band phonons are detected.
