Ultrashort pulse generation in lasers with active mode locking (review)

Journal Article · · Sov. J. Quant. Electron. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
A review is given of the recent progress in the application of active mode-locking techniques in transient high-power pulsed solid-state laser systems. A theoretical description of the mode-locking method is presented and a comparison is made of active and active--passive mode locking. The experimental performance of these systems is described with special regard to the reliability, pulse duration, and synchronization with external events.
