The following areas of research are reported: kinetics of the thermolysis of a hydridocyclohexyliridium(III) complex Cp(PMe/sub 3/)Ir(Cy)(H) (where Cp = n/sup 5/-C/sub 5/Me/sub 5/ and Cy = cyclohexyl) in benzene: the mechanism of thermal C-H insertion/elimination; an equilibrium study of reversible alkane C-H insertion/elimination; the synthesis of (n/sup 5/-cyclopentadienyl)-(trimethylphosphine)dihydridoiridium(III) and its use in the preparation of hydridoaryl and hydridoalkyl complexes.
