Fluxional behavior in the solid state: bullvalene

Journal Article · · J. Am. Chem. Soc.; (United States)
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1021/ja00305a054· OSTI ID:6712847
Results of high-resolution NMR spectral studies of bullvalene are presented. The cross polarization-magic angle spinning /sup 13/C spectra of the powder was recorded at 213, 300, and 358 K. The results provide that the Cope Rearrangement takes place in the crystalline solid. The results obtained for the activation enthalpy, as well as the preexponential factor for the Cope Rearrangement, agree closely with the ones reported previously for solution and liquid-crystalline solution. 20 references, 1 figure.
