LNG offshore handling

Conference · · Pap., Int. Conf. Liquefied Nat. Gas; (United States)
OSTI ID:6710195
LGA Gas and Marine Consult G.m.b.H., under sponsorship of the West German Government, is developing a submerged LNG tanker loading system for use with offshore liquefaction plants in locations having severe weather and sea conditions, as in the North Sea. Discussion of problems and tentative designs covers the possibility of avoiding gas-handling problems on the tanker by subcooling the LNG at the production platform; the design of the subsea insulated LNG pipeline from intermediate LNG storage on the liquefaction platform to a point below the submerged buoy; design of a flexible hose to connect the pipeline to the buoy; design of the submerged buoy and of a swivel joint within the buoy; the design of a flexible hose from the submerged buoy to the tanker; a concept of the loading operation; and a comparison with alternative systems.
