A device is described for detection of neutrons, comprising: as an active neutron sensing element, a conductive organic polymer having both electrical conductivity and a cross-section for the neutrons such that a detectable semi-permanent change in the conductivity is caused through impingement of the neutrons on the organic polymer; means operatively associatable with the conductive organic polymer, which is responsive to a property of the polymer altered by impingement of the neutrons on the polymer; and means for associating a permanent or semi-permanent change in the conductivity with the presence of neutrons at the location of the device.
