Room temperature rate constants for the gas-phase reactions of the hydroxyl radical with the monochloro-through pentachlorobiphenyls, dibenzo-p-dioxin, 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, and dibenzofuran have been estimated and the atmospheric lifetimes of these compounds due to this reaction calculated. These calculated atmospheric lifetimes range from approx.7-8 h for dibenzo-p-dioxin and dibenzofuran to approx.60-120 days for the pentachlorobiphenyl isomers. 26 references, 4 tables.
