The finite element response matrix method has been applied to the two-dimensional first order neutron transport equation. The method achieves significant computational savings over conventional finite element methods of solving transport problems by dividing the spatial domain into several regions. Response matrices are found for these regions, and the global neutron distributions is found iteratively. Further savings are realized by projecting the fine-mesh local solutions onto a coarser global mesh.
