Weakening of ultrasonic waves in the transition zones of the weld joints of clad steels

An experimental investigation was conducted of weakening of longitudinal and transverse ultrasonic waves in the transition zones of clad steels in probing at different angles when located in the zone of reflectors. The presence of a local zone with increased weakening of the ultrasonic wave echo signals located in front of the boundary of fusion was established. The equivalent area of a reflector reliably revealed in this zone was determined. The presence of deviation of the axis and broadening of the directional pattern of a transducer with ..beta.. = 40/sup 0/ and af = 15 mm x MHz recorded from reflectors located in the transition zones was established.
