Using ABAQUS: an introductory course
This workbook is written to accompany a set of videotape lectures that have been produced to introduce a new user to the ABAQUS program. ABAQUS is a general purpose, production oriented, finite element code. It is very simple to use, and has capabilities for a wide range of nonlinear applications. The lectures describe the basic capabilities of the program, explain its documentation and input formats, and illustrate its use by describing the definition and output of two small nonlinear cases: a large displacement, inelastic, dynamic impact example, and a thermal shock example that includes heat transfer analysis and elastic-plastic-creep mechanical behavior. The workbook is intended as a guide to the videotapes. It contains documentation and output plots for the two cases described in the lectures, and a set of exercises that are intended to allow the user to gain experience with running the program, and to broaden his knowledge of practical aspects of finite element analysis, especially in nonlinear structural applications.
