The first excited singlet state of thiophosgene is IR multiphoton pumped from state-selected vibronic levels of increasing vibrational energy, E/sub vib/. The extent of IR pumping to nonradiative (predissociating) levels is monitored from total fluorescence. The latter is observed to decrease due to IR pumping but no obvious dependence on E/sub vib/ of the initial state is observed. However, at levels requiring absorption of only one IR photon, unexpectedly little or no change in total fluorescence is observed suggesting that the absorption coefficient of these levels may be much smaller than at lower levels.
