Equivalence of an R+R/sup 2/ theory of gravity to Einstein-Cartan-Sciama-Kibble theory in the presence of matter

The gravitational theory with Lagrangian L/sub G/ = ..sqrt..-g(-lambdaR+..gamma..R/sup 2/) and nonzero torsion is shown to be equivalent to the Einstein-Cartan-Sciama-Kibble theory in the presence of an energy distribution described by a traceless energy-momentum tensor and an otherwise arbitrary spin-angular-momentum tensor.
