Scattering of 41 MeV. cap alpha. particles and 46 MeV /sup 3/He from /sup 27/Al, /sup 28/Si, /sup 29/Si, and /sup 30/Si

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)

Elastic scattering angular distributions were measured for 46-MeV /sup 3/He over the approx. 30/sup 0/--110/sup 0/ range and for 41-MeV ..cap alpha.. particles over the approx. 25/sup 0/--150/sup 0/ range for the neighboring targets /sup 27/Al, /sup 28,29,30/Si. For ..cap alpha.. particles, l = 2 inelastic scattering data were also obtained at angles beyond approx. 50/sup 0/. For /sup 3/He the three Si targets yield similar angular distributions that are different from that of /sup 27/Al at angles larger than approx. 55/sup 0/. The elastic ..cap alpha..-particle data supplement earlier back angle data to yield almost complete angular distributions. The /sup 28/Si ..cap alpha..-particle elastic angular distribution exhibits an anamoly in the 80/sup 0/--150/sup 0/ region. The /sup 3/He data were fitted by optical model potentials with either volume or surface absorption. To fit all of the ..cap alpha..-particle elastic scattering data, potentials with both volume and surface absorption, with separate geometry parameters, were needed. Distorted wave Born-approximation analyses of the ..cap alpha..-particle inelastic scattering data yield values of ..beta../sub 2/ that are in reasonable agreement with values obtained from analyses of scattering at other energies and incident particles.
