Wood residues produced at planing mills: Tennessee Valley area
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:6690128
Results from 12 planing mill operations showed that for each thousand board feet of pine lumber produced the following residues were generated: 767 pounds of shavings, 88 pounds of end trim, and 5.8 pounds of sawdust, based on an oven-dry condition. The oven-dry condition was used so that a valid comparison between products and mills could be made regardless of the final product's moisture content. This information can be used to determine the amount of shavings, end trim, and sawdust generated by the different lumber sizes produced. By knowing the amount of residue produced, mill owners should be better able to develop markets for their residues.
