The US Department of Energy (DOE) initiated its University Research Instrumentation (URI) Program in FY1984 as part of an interagency effort coordinated by the Office of Science and Technology Policy. Objective is to help upgrade the capability of universities to conduct advanced research and to support the training of graduate students in science and engineering. This document reports on the use of URI equipment approximately one year after its funding in FY1984.
