A recent report issued by the government of W. Germany on aircraft noise is reviewed. Measures to reduce aircraft noise levels pursuant to the passage of the W. German Civil Aviation Act are reported. Both active and passive noise prevention measures at civil airports and military airfields are discussed. The extent of participation by local councils in determining noise prevention zones is also considered. Some steps that have reduced W. German aircraft noise levels include the construction of new walls and hangars, the restriction of night flights, and the use of the quieter takeoff and landing procedures. (26 references)
