Production of positive pions from the bombardment of /sup 9/Be and /sup 12/C with 200-MeV polarized protons

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. Lett.; (United States)
Differential cross sections and analyzing power for reactions /sup 12/C(p, ..pi../sup +/) and /sup 9/Be(p, ..pi../sup +/) leading to discrete final states in the residual nuclei have been measured in the angular range from 35/sup 0/ to 135/sup 0/ using 200-MeV polarized protons. The shape of the angular distribution of analyzing powers is essentially independent of the residual nuclear state, indicating a strong dependence upon reaction mechanism rather than nuclear structure.
