N = 85 nuclei. II. Decay of 4. 15-h /sup 149/Tb/sup g/ to levels of /sup 149/Gd
The ..gamma..-ray spectrum accompanying the decay of 4.15-h /sup 149/Tb/sup g/ has been studied by Ge(Li) singles and coincidence spectroscopy. Sources were prepared via the /sup 141/Pr(/sup 12/C,4n) reaction and via spallation of Ta with 800-MeV protons. Chemical and isotropic separation techniques were employed to obtain pure sources. A total of 325 ..gamma.. rays are attributed to the decay of /sup 149/Tb/sup g/, all of which have been placed in a /sup 149/Gd level scheme involving 80 excited states. The spin and parity of /sup 149/Tb/sup g/ is postulated to be 1/2/sup +/. The intensity of the direct ..beta../sup +/ + electron capture branch from /sup 149/Tb/sup g/ to the /sup 149/Gd ground state (7/2/sup -/) is determined to be (0.5 * 5.0) %. The intensity of the ..cap alpha..-decay branch from /sup 149/Tb/sup g/ to /sup 145/Eu has been measured to be (15.8 < +- The observed level structure of /sup 149/Gd is discussed in terms of current nuclear models.
