Standard test method for total cobalt in alumina-base cobalt--molybdenum catalyst by the potentiometric titration method

In order to determine cobalt in freshly-prepared cobalt-molybdenum catalyst, the sample is decomposed by heating with H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/. The cooled solution is diluted to volume, and an aliquot containing 10 to 30 mg of cobalt is reacted with measured volumes of potassium ferricyanide and ammonium citrate solutions, ammonia, and petroleum ether. The excess of ferricyanide is then back titrated with a standard cobalt solution. Nickel, phosphorus, silicon, aluminium, and molybdenum do not interfere. Iron, chromium, vanadium, and manganese do interfere.
