The isolation condenser (IC) of a conceptual design of a simplified boiling water reactor (SBWR) has been modeled to study its performance under various operating conditions. There are two types of IC: the system IC is designed to passively limit the reactor pressure under accident conditions and the containment IC to remove the decay heat after a loss-of-coolant accident. A stand-alone computer code has been developed for simulating the two types of ICs to be utilized by the SBWR. The variations of the boundary conditions include (a) change in the initial liquid level in the IC, (b) change in initial line pressure loss, (c) change in the cooling capacity of the IC pool, and (d) variation of pressure in the steam line.
