Diverse ownership puts premium on accuracy in North Sea's Frigg field metering system

The Frigg gas field, jointly owned (60:40) by Norway and the UK, straddles the dividing line of the Anglo-Norwegian shelf. The pipelines that carry the Frigg gas for treatment to St. Fergus, Scotland, also take Piper field gas and soon will carry gas from the Tartan field as well. Accurate measurement is a vital factor in the gas-sales contracts and facility-sharing agreements involved in operating Frigg. Both British and Norwegian authorities require gas-volume and calorific-value measurements. To improve the accuracy of the St. Fergus metering and custody-transfer system, Total Oil added new differential-pressure cells and better quality operating density cells in the tube pockets. Total plans to install an improved relative density meter and is considering replacing its ramp flow computers.
