Supervisory fuel-gas compressor controls save energy in hydrogen purification unit

The control system for a fuel-gas compressor used in the hydrogen purification unit at Phillips 66 Co.'s Sweeny complex has been upgraded to digital, supervisory control. The upgrade has resulted in energy savings and improved control of operations. By using the computer, a 15% reduction in turbine steam was achieved with the added benefit of improved anti-surge control.
