Counties are used as spatial cells for many regional and national studies of environment, energy, health, and socioeconomics. Many agencies routinely collect county data for their specific mission-oriented needs; these files must be obtained, reformatted, edited, and integrated with other files for regional study needs. It is essential that county-level data be used in the most efficient way. The objectives of this workshop were to: provide a forum for exchanging ideas, methods, and data; inventory currently available data; identify needed data; establish a directory of people-contacts; and develop guidelines for exchanging thematic data. Abstracts of papers and discussion group summaries are given. (RWR)
