Two-stage injection-locked ring dye laser/amplifier for coherent image amplification
A coherent image amplification system consisting of two stages suitable for incorporation into a coherent optical processor with feedback is discussed. The amplification technique utilizes in stage one of the system a grating-tuned, injection-locked, folded-ring dye laser, which is locked to a narrow-band cw source for signal preamplification. A comparison is drawn between the folded-ring design and a previous simple linear cavity design of the injection-locked dye laser. Improvements include higher locking efficiency, reduced injection requirements, and increased peak power output. The preamplified signal from stage one is input to the dye image amplifier-stage two of the system. Because of improved performance in stage one, a higher amplification factor in stage two can be obtained.
