A short-course notebook intended to introduce the fundamental ideas of organic geochemistry to petroleum exploration geologists is presented. An introduction and review of the fundamentals of organic geochemistry is given along with discussions of the following topics: organic matter in recent sediments; petroleum generation; migration of petroleum from source rock to reservoir; maturation and alteration of reservoired petroleum; source rocks; and geochemical correlation.
