SNUPPS (Standardized Nuclear Unit Power Plant System) is a group of five utilities that have joined to design one standard plant, called a Power Block, and to build five of these plants at four different sites. The utilities that make up SNUPPS and their units are: Union Electric Co., St. Louis, Mo. (Calloway Nos. 1 and 2); Kansas City Power and Light, Kansas City, Mo., and Kansas Gas and Electric Co., Wichita, Kansas (Wolf Creek); Northern States Power Co., Minneapolis, Minn. (Tyrone); and Rochester Gas and Electric Co., Rochester, N. Y. (Sterling). Currently, four of the five SNUPPS units have received Construction Permits from the NRC. Two units, Callaway 1 and Wolf Creek, are actively under construction. The Power Block is made up of the basic elements of a nuclear plant. The in-depth involvement and commitment of the individual utilities are described. (MCW)
