Monju, a prototype fast breeder reactor, is under construction in Japan. Following erection of the reactor containment vessel, construction of the reactor system has begun in parallel with construction of the auxiliary systems and plant buildings. This paper describes the overall project, its organization, key design features, construction and main component manufacture.
