Statistical theory of multiple production of hadrons

The main investigations on the statistical theory of multiparticle production are reviewed critically. It is considered whether the general solution to the problem can be found unambiguously on the basis of the principles of statistical physics. It is shown that one must take into account one-dimensional and thermal expansion of the system. On this basis, a general relation for the multiplicity is obtained.
