The growing number of intercompany interchange schedules due to increased competition and reduced capacity construction has made short-term system security analysis difficult for the operations planner. Current external equivalencing methods do not provide an efficient method of analyzing potential interchange schedules using real-time load flow cases. This paper presents a method of using the REI equivalent to perform these analyses. Basic REI concepts are reviewed and expanded for performing interchange studies. The results of two examples, one using actual real-time values, are provided.
